Morgan Stanley Flags Nvidia as Most Under-Owned Megacap Despite AI Dominance
Morgan Stanley analysts highlight a striking disconnect in Nvidia's market position. The chipmaker now represents 7.37% of relevant indices but comprises just 4.2% of average institutional portfolios—a 2.41 percentage point underweight that leads all major tech stocks. This gap persists despite Nvidia delivering 1,300% returns over five years and emerging as the AI infrastructure backbone.
Microsoft, Apple, and Amazon show smaller under-ownership gaps of 2.39%, 1.66%, and 1.40% respectively. Meanwhile, Intuit, Oracle, and Dell appear over-owned relative to their index weightings. The analysis comes as Nvidia and AMD negotiate revenue-sharing agreements with the US government for Chinese AI chip sales—a move securing their supply chains amid geopolitical tensions.
